V&E is actively engaged in advising clients on all manner of environmental and regulatory issues arising from shale development and hydraulic fracturing operations. Our engagements in these areas provide us with an unmatched, cutting edge view and depth of knowledge on these issues. Our experience in these areas is broad and covers environmental counseling, enforcement, litigation, and transactional matters.
V&E represents oil and gas producers and service companies in connection with governmental investigations related to their hydraulic fracturing activities, including responding to Congressional subpoenas and EPA information requests. In addition, we have assisted clients in responding to SEC comment letters and drafting disclosures related to their hydraulic fracturing operations. We also represent clients in agency enforcement actions and toxic tort suits arising out of their hydraulic fracturing operations, including actions alleging violations of the Clean Water Act and seeking damages for groundwater contamination.
We also are advising clients on the rapidly changing regulatory requirements applicable to shale development and hydraulic fracturing, including analyzing existing and prospective regulations at the federal, state, and local level that could affect shale development and advising producers and service companies on newly enacted chemical disclosure requirements. As interest in shale development has increased, V&E has become a leading legal advisor to foreign, private equity, and other investors in all the major U.S. shale plays, including the Bakken, Barnett, Eagle Ford, Marcellus, and Niobrara shales. As part of this representation, we routinely advise clients on regulatory and environmental requirements, compliance issues, potential environmental risks and liabilities, and mitigation of these risks and liabilities.
Our attorneys also assist clients with environmental and regulatory matters relating to the entire natural gas supply chain. We have advised numerous midstream energy companies regarding environmental permitting and other regulatory requirements in connection with developing pipeline and related infrastructure to serve the burgeoning production from shale formations throughout the U.S. In addition, we have provided strategic environmental and regulatory advice relating to the conversion of an LNG import terminal into an export terminal for shale gas.
We constantly monitor regulatory developments, including studies and initiatives related to hydraulic fracturing being undertaken at the federal and state level. Our environmental attorneys regularly participate in industry advisory groups and are consulted frequently for their insight on these issues. The regulatory landscape in this area is rapidly developing, and V&E is well positioned and uniquely qualified to assist clients in navigating this landscape given the depth and breadth of our experience.
